From Oxford science to trauma-focused healing

I combine scientific thinking with coaching and healing to support people who feel they've reached the limits of therapy alone.

Julie Goodridge, trauma healing practitioner

Hi, I'm Julie

I began my career studying Biochemistry & Physiology before completing my MSc in Epidemiology at Oxford.

After 10 years working in mental health services, I kept seeing the same thing: people who understood what had happened to them, but still didn't feel free from it.

That led me to a more structured approach to trauma healing. Today, I combine scientific thinking with coaching and healing to support people who feel they've reached the limits of therapy alone.

My journey

My background is in science and mental health. I studied Biochemistry & Physiology before completing my MSc in Epidemiology at Oxford. I then worked as a Research Assistant at Imperial College London before spending 10 years working in mental health services.

Alongside this, I've spent more than 20 years exploring healing and personal growth. Today, I bring these different parts of my experience together in the way I work with people.

Where it all began

I've always been curious about what lies beyond what we can see and measure. Studying science deepened that curiosity. It helped me understand how the body works, but it also left me wondering about the parts of being human that science can't fully explain.

That curiosity led me to my first Reiki course in 2001. Years later, when my father died in 2016, I was with him at the end. It was a deeply personal experience that intensified my curiosity and made me reflect even more on the connection between the body, our inner world, and the things we can't always explain.

It's also a thread that runs through the book I'm writing now, which explores breath, biochemistry, photosynthesis and my own experiences of grief, recovery, and personal change.

Julie is a natural empath. I felt drawn to her and am so glad I followed my intuition. After one session I could feel the benefits, and what she'd sensed was spot on.

Why understanding isn't always enough

My years working in mental health taught me something I kept coming back to: understanding what happened to you and actually feeling different are not always the same thing.

I've seen people work incredibly hard to get better. They've had therapy, taken medication, read the books and tried to understand their past. And yet, sometimes, they still feel as though they're living with the effects of what happened.

That's why I believe it's important to look beyond the story alone. For me, trauma can continue to show up in the way we feel, behave and relate to ourselves and others. Anxiety, burnout and panic can be part of that picture, but they're not always the whole story.

My work is about exploring what's underneath those patterns, and helping people create the space for something to change.

The training behind my work

My own path into this work started in 2001, with my first Reiki course. I went on to train as a Reiki Master and eventually taught Reiki myself.

In 2002, I spent six months travelling through the United States, including six weeks attending VortexHealing® workshops. That was the beginning of a training journey I've continued over many years. I've also trained in Heart Healing, and in June 2026 completed a 10-day VortexHealing® intensive, reaching Jewel Level.

My work is structured, but it's also personal. I combine healing sessions with coaching conversations, giving people space to explore what comes up, recognise patterns and consider what they want to do differently.

An important note about my work

I'm not a doctor, psychologist, or registered therapist. I don't diagnose, and I don't treat medical or psychological conditions.

What I offer is a structured approach combining coaching and energy-based healing for people who are looking for something beyond what they've already tried. This isn't a replacement for therapy or medical care, and it's not a criticism of either. For many of the people I work with, it's simply another part of their journey.
