On edge, and can't switch off
You know, logically, that you're safe. Nothing is wrong in this exact moment. And yet your body doesn't seem to have received the message. You're braced. Alert. Waiting for something, even when there's nothing to wait for.
Maybe you can't remember the last time you truly relaxed. Or maybe you can relax, but only for a moment before the guilt or the restlessness creeps back in. Maybe you've tried the breathing exercises and the meditation apps, and they haven't touched it. Maybe you've had therapy, understood exactly where it all comes from, and still feel the same.
If any of that sounds familiar, you're not broken, and you're not failing at relaxing. Being permanently on edge is one of the ways the body holds on to experiences that were never fully resolved. Often small, ordinary ones that never seemed ‘bad enough’ to explain how you feel.
This series works through that, one question at a time. It starts with whether what you went through even counts, moves through why the usual advice doesn't work for you, and ends with what actually helps. You can read them in order, or start wherever your own question is.
These posts point towards my 1:1 programme, a structured way to explore what's beneath the patterns, at a pace that feels safe. But there's no need to decide anything to read. Start with whichever question is yours.
